We arrived at the lake a little after 2pm, after a pleasant drive down through france, from the port of Calais. On arrival, we were well pleased with our choice of venue. We found the host's Peter and Fred very approachable, friendly and knowledgeable and after a few beers and a chat we were soon set-up and carp fishing. The first night of our carp fishing holiday in france passed by without any action which was a blessing really as we all needed a good nights sleep, Sunday produced 5 fish between the 3 of us with the biggest going just over 23lb. Monday and Tuesday passed by with very little action, only another 5 fish between us, the best being a 22lb common. Much better was to come as Wednesday the weather improved greatly and the fish really got their heads down and started to respond to the 15 kilo of NRG we had put. Between Wednesday and Saturday morning we had a total of 28 fish between the 3 of us. The best fish of the week were 38lb.09oz, 36lb.05oz, 33lb.02oz, 30lb.12oz along with 9 good 20's. After a slow start we can only say that thing's just got better and better so much so that we would have loved to stayed on for another week but we had to make way for the next party and wished them well on our way out the gate.
That's for all the advice and well be seeing you again shortly....Rob, Will and Kev from Doncaster.
Had a superb week like the previous party before us who we had met on our arrival at the lake, we were using the same bait NRG and put in 20k between the 2 of us along with about the same amount of haibut pellets. In total for the week I caught 15 fish and brother Mike just piped me at the post with 16. The biggest fish of the week was a monster 45lb catfish followed closely by a mint conditioned 42lb.07oz Mirror carp, my brother Mike being the lucky capture another six 20's and two 30's made for a superb week's fishing. The caravan and facilities at this Lake are a much added bonus and we found the Host, Peter and Fred, really helpful. This lake comes highly recommended and we can't wait to get back later on in the year
Thanks for everything and see you later on in the year....Albert and Mike Steadman - Leeds
Thoroughly enjoyable holiday with well sound host. The combination of very hot days and fresh nights did not help the fishing but we did catch a total of 29 fish.......4 * 20's.....20 * doubles to 19lb.....Catfish of 18lb.......Grass carp of 21lb and a few smaller fish. Beautiful lake and surroundings...We'll have em next time!
Peter Kay & Friends from Rugby
Next up saw the return of Paul and Heather for their 2 week break on Etang des Mearult. Although mostly only fishing days they managed some nice fish to mid twenties but not sure of the final fish count. Visited the many places of interest that this region has to offer and although the first week was a little wet the weather improved for the second week. Hope to see you both over again soon
Paul, Heather and Carl from Bury
Great lake, superb surroundings and excellent facilities. We had an exceptional week's fishing with the both of us breaking our personal best 3 times each!!. Terry had 14 carp, 4 * 20's to 28lb.10oz, 3 * 30's to 38lb.11oz with his best fish of the week being a mint 45lb.07oz mirror and a new personal best for him. I caught 16 fish in total for the week "Swim 1" 5 * 20's to 26lb, 2 * 30's to 39lb.08oz and a stonking big mirror of 48lb.02oz which is now my own personal best. In addition to the carp I was fortunate enough to catch 3 cats which went, 22lb, 36lb and 43lb. All in all a fantastic week's fishing and were coming back for sure.
Thanks for a memorable week....Terry & Mick Stevens - Crawley in Sussex.
First time in France for us and although we got lost on the way down " The Wife's fault" map reading never been a strong point. On arrival at the lake we were met by Fred & Peter and after a few tips and last week's catch report we were soon setup and fishing. Found many places of interest to visit, the Zoo being well worth a visit. Simon my son, who did most of the fishing, had 6 catfish, biggest going just under 40lb along with 3 other 30's and 15 carp to 36lb.10oz so he was well pleased. Another 12 fish between my wife and I with 2 over 30lb made for a terrific weeks fishing. The lake and facilities are first class, no problems bringing the wife and children. Could not recommend this lake highly enough look forward to meeting you both again next year.
All the best Nathan, Karen and Simon - Surrey
Many thanks for the weeks fishing at Merault also thank you for fixing the tyre on my trailor. I must say that the facilities at your lake are superb, probably the best we have used so far. As you know the weather was very hot and the fishing very slow. Between the five of us we only managed 15 carp, the best weighing 21lb 6oz. We did have a good catfish weighing 38lb and a smaller one at 10lb also a 10lb pike taken on boilie.
Once again many thanks and maybe well see you soon.......Darren Marsh & Friends
Next up saw the visit over of Chris, Scott, Fatboy, John & Paul who between them managed 26 fish with the best fish of the week being a Catfish of 42lb, nice one John!.

This week saw the visit of Mike Piotrowski wife and friends. A very slow week to report but several fish landed with the best of the week being a mirror of just under 25lb falling to the rods of David Kay.
Many thanks for the visit over and hope the van made it home!!
We had about 51 between us from low doubles up to 25lb.8oz along with a few other 20,s. The first peg fished it's socks off lost some very big fish in the snags. We all used NRG made by Mainline and everything sound as usual.
Thanks again and well be back best wishes from Steve, Mick, Robbie, Dave and the little Feua.....from Liverpool.
Next up saw the visit of Stuart & Leon from kent who enjoyed a good week with four 20's to 28lb and a nice Cat of 32lb.
Thanks for the visit over lads and hope to see you again sometime.
This week saw the much awaited re-visit of Rodney Wilcock and friend Bryan Moyles who had previously enjoyed some good sport on this lake. A very slow week not helped by some seriously hot weather although they did manage several fish to upper 20's.
Many thanks for your visit over again and see you again soon, Regards - Fred & Peter.
Awaiting catch report..........
10th - 17th July 2004Next up saw the visit of James, Paul & Keith Sanchez from London N8. A slow week to report with only a dozen fish caught with the best being a mint high 20 but much fun was had shame about the one's that got away!!!. Cheers Lads, Fred & Peter
17th - 31st July 2004Had a great time on this much anticipated two week break on Etang des Mearult. Fishing was very slow during the first week with 7 carp and 3 Cats caught between the three of us biggest going 27lb. The second week saw a much welcomed drop in temperature and improvement with the fish as we managed 35 carp and 6 cats during the second week. In total we caught 42 Carp several 20's to 29lb.02oz, Three 30's to 38lb.4oz with Nick taking the biggest fish of the week of 48lb.06oz. Nine cats smallest 14lb and the biggest going a tab over 54lb with me being the lucky capture, some very big fish lost one i'm sure being a big Mirror well into the 50's shame on that score but truly a great venue. Facilities and local shop's spot on look forward to seeing you both again next year.
Many thanks, Ian, Nick & Chas - from Devon
Took a nice steady 4hr's drive down from Caen to reach the lake, and on our first impression were well pleased. The lake is about 4½ acres in size and looks very carpie, has some over-hanging trees amongst other marginal features. Things started off really well, the first night seeing no more than 10 runs between the 3 of us, resulting in 3*30's, 4*20's, 2*mid-doubles and one lost fish. By the end of our stay we had totaled 75 fish between the 3 of us, we caught 3*40's biggest went 49lb.05oz which was a Big Mirror, 12*30's, 23*20's with the rest going between 14 and 18lb and being a mix between Mirror's and Commons. In addition we caught 15 cats going between 12 and 38lb. Facilities are very good, very nice clean caravan "not that we used it much" with the English toilet and shower in a separate cabin - spot on....
See you again next year and best wishes for now Keith, Russell and Ken - Kent.
Next up saw the visit of Adam Sad and friends from Norwich. Adam and party caught 55 fish between the 5 of them with 2 carp going over 30lb and several 20,s during their weeks stay on Etang des Mearult.
Very well done lads and look forward to seeing you all again sometime - Fred & Peter - Carp Hunters Abroad.Had a great stay on this lake and well worth a visit for the serious carp angler, good facilities and excellent host are found in Fred & Peter. Caught well, 44lb.09oz Mirror, large cat which weighed in at 46lb something once's, other fish included smaller cats and carp.
Had a great stay, thanks Fred & Peter - The roots hall Carp boys
The week started with quite cold nights for the time of year, and the first couple of days were quite slow, but as the week went on and the weather warmed up (including an almighty thunderstorm!) the fishing was steady, with the three of us totaling 22 carp to 31lb, most upper doubles with a couple of twenties. The thirty was caught as we were packing up! (a big increase in his PB for Gerrit). We also had 8 small cats to 12lb, but the one leaping about at the far end of the lake from the caravan was a real beast! Thoroughly enjoyed the week as always and will be back again next year!
Many thanks, Neil, Gerrit and Joe.
Next up saw Bryan Morris and Kevin Green from Basildon in Essex who enjoyed a good weeks carp fishing with a total of 25 fish between them. Not sure of size of fish but 2 or 3 twenties and a low thirty along with some small cats.
Thanks for the visit over and look forward to meeting you again in the future, Fred & Peter - Carp Hunters Abroad.
Arrived just before mid-day after taking the longer route down from Calais, a tab over 5hrs. Fishing very slow during the first few days but did pick up towards the end of the week, with the first big one coming out at 38lb.04oz well pleased. Second week much better, although weather very hot during the day. Ended up with 34 fish which for us is very good as we have only been carp fishing for a couple of seasons now, and this being our first ever visit over to France. Both of us broke our personal best no more than 3 time each and can only say listen to the owners Fred & Peter as they really know their lake.
Thanks for a memorable fortnight's fishing and well be back soon......Lennie & Dave - Shopshire.
Facilities all good, lake is not difficult to fish but trying to stop some of the monsters that reside in this lake is not so easy. Will most definitely be back for another go as we were a little out gunned this time. Caught 11 fish each with the biggest being an impressive 29lb grass carp caught from swim one.
Thanks to all.....Trevor & Stuart - West Yorkshire.
Very productive lake both during the day and at nights, Rob had the lions share in swim one, but then at least he goes home happy as he's the driver. A quite wonderful setting and supper fishing with a total of 21 fish between the two of us. Rob had both of the thirties "38lb.08oz & 39lb.02oz" plus 5 twenties, the best I managed was a 26lb common which I was pleased with as this is now my new PB.
Many thanks to Fred, Peter & Tracey all the best...........Alan & Vic - Portsmouth.
Delightful setting and with very good facilities for anglers and their families. Weather was great from day one although fishing was slow for the first 3 days we ended up with 26 fish between the 2 of us, biggest being a new personal best for me of 39lb, a superb conditioned Mirror. Two other 30's which went 31lb.09oz & 34lb along with 6 twenties to 28lb.11oz made for an action packed last few days. This lake is well worth a trip over and there are loads to do for the misses and kids
All the best for the future.......Mark & Kim and the crew - Sheffield.
Facilities and caravan more than adequate. This was our very first visit over to France carp fishing and although we are not your hardened carp anglers and on some nights preferred the comfort of the caravan we did fish mostly around the clock. During our 2 weeks on Etang des Mearult the weather was very much up and down with some nights being very cold in fact we had just about everything, rain and very strong winds, up in the nineties during the days and down to 1 or 2 during the nights but nothing seem to deter the carp from getting their heads down. We caught a total of 63 carp and 12 cats between the 3 of us during our 2 week stay. We all broke our personal best and Steve even managed to break his rod while playing what could only be described as a beast of a catfish from the boat. The biggest fish of our stay was a catfish of 58lb with another of 48lb and some smaller ones from 18 to 30lb. The carp went from mid-doubles to 43lb.09oz and a new personal best for me, Steve had a common of 37lb and Gary a 41lb.04oz Mirror. All in all a fantastic fortnight's fishing in France and needless to say we can not wait to get back as soon as possible. We only used Trigger as recommended by the owners and very pleased we listen as the carp & Cats love em.
Excellent host and very knowledgeable guys, see you again soon and carry on the good work.
Steve, Gary & Terry from Kent
First visit over to this region of France for us and Carp Hunters Abroad and all good. Most of our fish were caught from swim 1 during the day with the odd fish coming from the margins at night. Nothing massive but we did manage 16 fish between my son and I with the best of the week going 28lb.04oz but there are much bigger fish to be had from this lake we see one while we were out on the boat that looked huge must of been a mid 50, Tim my son swears its the one he lost Tuesday afternoon. I was lucky enough to catch a nice Cat of 25lb on a 30ml Trigger fishmeal from the outlet swim.
A really super lake with stacks of fish and nice caravan and facilities. Look forward to meeting you again next year, Tim & Warren from.....Liverpool
