MAY 2001 Etang Des Palluau got off to a good and very hot start. The first party to fish this lake were our long lost friends from England Serena & Steve and family who made the visit down to us from Manningtree in Essex. Here's the entries to date from the log book 27th of May 2001
We arrived at Etang Palluau on Saturday the 13th all safe and well from our four an a half hour journey down from the port of Caen. This lake, facilities and location are very good with the nearest town being just a 5 min drive from the road which runs beside the lake. The lake is completely enclosed and is in ideal surroundings for a family with children or a party of adult anglers. We had a wonderful 2 week stay at this lake and although we are not dedicated carp anglers we did catch our fair share of them 32 in total for the week, with the best being a 26lb grass carp caught by Liam our son's friend. Our son Dean also caught many carp but was more Interested in all the other types of fish which Inhabit this wonderful lake. In concluding we are sure that any type of angler whether they are mad Carp anglers or general coarse anglers will find this holiday venue of the highest quality.
An unbiased opinion from Steve, Serena, Dean and a very happy Liam
JUNE 16th of June 2001
The first time in France for us and although we got lost on the way down we made it in 7 hours from Dover - Calais. The first thing which strikes you about this lake is it's beauty, although there is a road which runs by the side of the lake it's surprisingly peaceful and well screened from the road and totally secure. The fishing was unbelievable we spent more time un-hooking fish than we did fishing for them! we caught all varieties of fish, tench, carp, pike, perch, black bass, roach, zander, crass carp. Perhaps the only disappointment is that the owners Fred & Peter are removing most of the other species of fish which will perhaps not make this lake so good for the non serious carp angler next
year, even we caught one of 29lb. Thanks for a wonderful stay well worth the visit.
Love Deb's, Paul and Kids. 30th of June 2001 Wonderful setting, knowledgable host and loads of fish. 22 carp for the week and loads of entertainment with the smaller fish including some strange looking fish
called black bass they seem like a cross between a perch and a zander which we also caught. Best fish was a 32lb grass carp. Well be back next year to hopefully catch the bigger fish which reside in this lake. In addition to the large carp that already reside in this lake the owners tell us that they are going to drain the lake off in November 01 and remove some of the other species, this making way for some additional large carp up to 40lb! Well be back again.
Love Kim, Brad, Frank from Dorset.
JULY
14th - 27th of July 2001 Forget anywhere else in France this must be the best value for money fishing holiday in France. The weather was glorious, the sun shone for 14 days and the water was so warm that we spent most of the time up to our necks in it. Excellent local facilities and plenty to do, there are two major supermarkets within a 5 mile radius and two good local restaurants close by. Peter did the best as with regards to the fishing {only because we could not drag him away from the bankside} his best carp of the fortnight was a 36lb Mirror carp, our only regret, is that it never pulled him in!! suppose I should not have said that
as he is the only one with the bottle to drive over here. Thanks once again Fred & Peter not forgetting Fred's lovely wife Tracey. Looking forward to our visit next year on Etang Merault if it's half as good as this well be over the moon.
Love Clair, Peter, Tony and Gill
AUGUST 11th of August 2001
The first thing to say about this lake is that it's really home from home, English toilets and showers with hot running water and everything as said by the owners. We came over to France last year to fish a little lake the other side of Paris which we were very disappointed with. There was only a hole in the ground for the toilet and no hot running water as promised! Etang Des Palluau is a very beautiful lake with loads of water iris and lovely flat banks. The fishing was superb with plenty of fish caught in the 3 days that we managed to fit in around the sight seeing and various days out that we had. Tours is only just over an hours drive away but you will find many places of interest not to far away from the lake. Thanks Fred & Tracey for such a wonderful break, Stuart has said to tell you he caught a 35lb Grass Carp 20 mins after you left last night which has made his holiday. Love Rose, Peter and Stuart from Devon 11th of August 2001
A must visit lake stuffed full of all sorts of fish and some wonderful carp, tench and quality roach, accommodation and facilities are more than adequate. Although we were not after the big carp Tim and Frank did manage 22 between them with the biggest being a 29lb mirror carp
All the best for the future gents - Bab's, Me , Tim and Frank from Yorkshire.
SEPTEMBER
1st of September 2001 A wonderful setting in a very interesting part of France. The weather was in the high 90's all week and the best time to fish was during the late evenings and early mornings. The accommodation and facilities are excellent as mentioned already by previous visitors to this splendid set up of Fred & Peter's little part of France. Fish caught in total were: 330lb of Tench, 585lb of Carp {Mixture of mirror's, common's, leathers, and grass carp} 22lb Black bass, 229lb of mixed, not bad between the two of us. The prize catch went to Ian with a fortunate 23lb.11oz common carp and a huge 4lb.8oz perch.
Cheers blue, Rob and Ian
15th of September 2001 Had a great time in what was our first family holiday in over 8 years, can not really add to what has already been said only that the carp swimming along the top of the water during the hot sunny days was a sight not to have been missed. We caught {meaning my brother and I} 18 carp to 32lb's which for me was a new personal best, the kids had a whale of a time catching more fish in a week than they would in a year back at home. So glad we made the trip over and choose Etang Palluau, we will be back again next year for sure. All the best from the Tyler family - SUPERB! 22nd of September 2001 30 carp loads of sun and a great time had by all. Best fish a cracking 36lb crass carp which was well worth the trip down by it's self. Thanks again - Mark, Gav, Scott and Junior Spencer.
APRIL
6th of April 2002 Very strong winds and plenty of rain in the first few days but loads of carp ranging from 8lb to 28lb, seventeen carp in total for the week. The water temperature was a little cold for the tench but we did catch some nice roach, rudd, black bass, perch and 3 pike we also caught a 12lb zander on sweetcorn. Overall a fantastic week especially the last 4 days when the sun tan
lotion was called for.
Hope to visit you again next year if work permits.....Dave, Gareth and Lisa from Wilthsire. 13th of April 2002 Thanks a million guys for all your help and advice which was greatly appreciated. The restaurant in Buzancais which is only a short drive in the car is very good and worth a meal out during your stay. The weather and fishing was great we had 27 carp the biggest was a 27lb.09oz mirror we also had 4 smaller 20's, we had loads of other fun on the float while we waited for the carp. We used 22ml roship isotonics boilies as Peter suggested and found these baits to work well. Merci Beaucoup et Au revoir Fred, Peter, Tracey
MAY 4th of May 2002 Facilities and fishing first class, weather very hot, best tactics that we found to get to the bigger fish was to use double 20mls, but surprisingly worm was the best bait for almost constant action. Very upset to be going back home to the real world as the last two weeks has been like being in another world, we really have had a superb time and can not wait to come back next year or perhaps later on this year. Thanks for a wonderful two weeks away from the real world and see you all again soon......Peter, Terry, Kim 11th of May 2002 Congratulations to young Paul who this week caught a 33lb grass
carp while enjoying his stay at Etang des Palluau with his parents Pat & Terry from London.
A total of 24 doubles mostly between 12 and 20lb and the crass carp were caught by Paul on only his first ever visit to France....and yes you are more than welcomed to bring a friend next time. 25th of May2002 Alright Fred & Peter Just a short note to let you know how we finished off. We had approx 40 doubles averaging between 12-15lb and hundreds between 2 and 5lb on the float rod. We also had a few zander on live roach, most of the carp were spawning when caught. We felt this could have been the reason why it went a bit quiet for the last few days after and excellent start. Accommodation was ideal, we really enjoyed our stay and privacy and the lake itself is very idyllic. Enjoyed sitting out eating from the barbie, with a few beers to wash the food down. Hope to see you both in the near future as we want to come back to catch some big un's possibly thinking about October or November this year will contact you soon about the availability. Thanks very much - Steve, Mick , Robbie form Liverpool.
JUNE
8th of June 2002 David and Mark Spells Ron Hyland, Andrew Shewbridge and Steve Shiret Over this week were 5 lads from Belvedere in Kent who endured some of the worst rain we have had this year although we did need it. Loads of fish caught again this week 30 odd in total but no big fish this week. It must be said that these lads were without a doubt the cleanest anglers we have ever had on either lake not a match stick was found on the bankside and the accommodation was I'm sure cleaner than it was found.
A superb bunch of lads and your more than welcomed to pay us another visit. 15th of June 2002 Next up were Philip and
Valeria Rawcliffe from Portsmouth who had better weather and as a result the fishing improved
a little with loads of small carp and I believe some tench. Nothing real big carp up to 17lb we know you enjoyed your stay and very much hope to see you again in the near future. 29th of June 2002 The much awaited visit of Mr & Mrs Ward who had booked a week on Palluau and then a second week on Merault were the next anglers on this lake. Trevor and Joan fished days only preferring the comfort of a proper bed and a roof over their heads during the nights. They really made the most of their stay and visited the local attractions and supermarkets given the fishing a break once and a while does seem to pay off as they caught a great deal of fish during their first week. Pleased that you made the trip over ok and considering it was your first time driving abroad we think you did well in more ways than one.
JULY 6th of July 2002
Great lake superb accommodation well the wife liked it which is all that matters to me as I was only here for the fishing which was by the way nothing short of the best fishing you could ever possibly wish for. I'm not a big carp angler myself I much prefer catching carp of all size's which I did but the brace of 20's I caught on Thursday may sway me on to the big carp seen though, a 27lb.04oz and a 28lb Mirror coming only 25 min's after the first one was the icing on the cake for me. The wife and the boy had a great time and have said they would like to do it again next year so I will be seeing you again next year guy's. Thanks for everything we had a more than pleasing time and hope very much to see you again next year perhaps we will give your other lake etang merault a go.
Peter & Pat and son 27th of July 2002
Left rainy England on Friday night, arrived at the lake in sunny France Saturday mid afternoon. Loads of places to visit and plenty to do you really need two weeks over here as you will never get to do all the things you set out to do. Between the 3 of us we caught 23 carp ranging from 12lb to the biggest of the week which was a 35lb monster which had us all amazed at it's sheer beauty and size a fish we will never forget and a holiday we will never forget either. To some it up, one word really...****BRILLAINT**** See you all again.....Love Robert, Ken, Claire from Swindon.
AUGUST
August the 10th to 24th 2002 I must say this was our first visit to France and I don't think we could have chosen a better venue for our 2 week stay. My son kevin who has been disabled for the last 5 years due to a motor bike accident has not been fishing for some while now, so this holiday was to be arranged as so..My wife and I were to go off out and about while my son Kevin and his brother Mark were to fish at the lakeside which we and they duly did. The end result was that my wife and I had a wonderful time doing our
thing, visiting all the local surrounds and making compleat pigs of ourself at some of the wonderful restaurants nearby. Kevin and Mark got brown as berry's and caught some superb fish, carp, tench, pike, zander and a 38lb grass carp. Absolutely first class and a very memorable first fishing holiday in France, Thanks for all,.. Mark, Kevin, Heather, Dick.
SEPTEMBER 7th of September 2002 44 fish in total caught during our short 4 day stay. This lake is well worth a visit and we all agree will become as good as Fred & Peter's other lake Etang Mearult which we fished last year. The biggest fish of the week was although only small at 23lb a perfect conditioned fully scaled mirror, will send photo's. It's Etang des Mearult for us again next year though. Thanks once again guy's....Terry, Ashley and John from South Wooden Ferries, Essex
21st of September 2002 Loads of sun, plenty of fish and all types of them as this is really an all rounder. We fished from dawn to dust and some nights during our 2 weeks stay on Etang des Palluau. The best carp of our fortnight stay was a superb 34lb mirror which Big H caught during a night fishing session, Ian also had a 33lb.8oz grass carp. Loads of smaller carp ranging from 4lb to 25lb in addition to some excellent tench and zander. Facilities on this lake are more than good value for your money and we will most certainly be back again sometime in the near future. Thanks for everything gents - H, Ian, Bry & Kate from Hull
OCTOBER 14th of October 2002 Arrived Sunday morning as our car broke down on the motor-way this side of the cannel - we were not pleased!!. Myself, Mark and young Jeff setup camp on the east bank and caught steadily all week with the biggest fish being a 28lb common caught on good old sweetcorn. You do need Big boilies on this lake if you are after the big carp as if you use baits like sweetcorn you will have to wade through the smaller fish first. Our only regret was that we did not book for 2 weeks and that we had taken out breakdown cover a must have
as we found out to our great expense. Here's to hoping for a breakdown free trip home back to Yorkshire, England. 28th of October 2002
Weather not bad for late October early November better than at home that's for sure. Although fishing was patchy for the first few days things really picked up from Tuesday onwards we caught in excess of 50 carp ranging from 8 to 26lb and some cracking tench. Kevin caught several pike and zander ranging from 6 to 18lb and although I was happy catching the carp I did manage a pike of 22lb and a zander of 11lb which I was well pleased with. A must goto lake in France and everything you need with respect of facilities Many thanks Peter & Don - Hastings
